Reflection on the first meeting

On Friday, our CG1102 project team had a team meeting during the lab time. After the meeting, I'm having some thoughts and self-reflections on the meeting.

First, it was really unfortunate that the two camaras we used to record the meeting both went down and we only had about twenty minutes video recording. However, it is fortunate that at least we had prepaired a audio recording of our meeting. This lets me think that no matter what we do, we have to prepare for unexpected situations. Although we had prepared two camaras in order to back up, we still did not record the video for the whole meeting. Our last resort of audio recording really helped.

Second, I want to reflect on the performance of myself during the meeting. It seems that I have been a bit quiet during the meeting. I think I should speak more and be more active. However, I being quiet was not because I did not prepare well for the meeting. I was spending too much time thinking during the meeting. Whenever our teammates presented their ideas, I would always spend a bit longer time than others to think critically about the idea. So, I should be more active and coming up with more ideas next time.

In the end, wish everyone a HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!

  1. Hello Xiangyu,

I agree that you were a bit too quiet during this meeting. Your reflection of yourself was great. I'm glad you had critically evaluated yourself, narrowing your lack of participation as you spent more time thinking instead. Perhaps next time you could also speak out for us to further elaborate the idea instead of trying to interpret what each team member is trying to convey. This allows the message to be passed through clearly and facilitates the team discussion.

I hope we can make the next meeting better. Especially when we have the entire team contributing and building on ideas!

    Regards,
    Junhao

  3. Hi Xiang Yu,

It is not unusual for us to think during a meeting. Hence, it is necessary for you to inject pauses during the meeting. This could be achieved simply by clarifying a statement, for instance. :) This not only buys you time for you to think, but also helps your team stay on topic as well. :)

And yes, I do agree with Jun Hao and yourself that you should participate more in the group discussion. :) It is important that you participate because I am sure that you hold within yourself a very unique perspective of the problem at hand which could potentially spur your team to greater heights. :)

And I thank you for the good wishes for Chinese New Year. I wish you had a splendid Chinese New Year as well! :)

    Yours sincerely,
    Juncheng Chen

  5. Hi Xiangyu ,
Thinking in the meeting is absolutely normal, but make sure that you can catch up with your teammates in the discussion.

It's pity that your 2 cameras did not function well. Anyway, please give us the link so that we can have a look at it :D

And I think you meant "prepared an audio recording " :D

    Yours sincerely,
    Tuan Vu

  7. Hi Juncheng,

Thank you very much for your comments!

I think your idea is great. Thinking in meeting is really necessary. Without a certain time period for thinking, the meeting could not be effective.

I think by speaking more, I can even get more chances to think because my teammates will give me feedback for me to evaluate.

    Regards,
    Xiangyu
